South Rand Hospital promotes Breastfeeding Month in their community

Annual breastfeeding campaign held.

South Rand Hospital hosted an annual breastfeeding campaign that started in August.

Matron Nomvula Mailula from South Rand Hospital said it is a huge pleasure for them to be celebrating the breastfeeding campaign and create more awareness about breastfeeding.

“We don’t have specific days to celebrate due to Covid-19 restrictions. We are doing health talks every single day of the week in our different departments and also handing out pamphlets to the mothers,” said Mailula.

She said they are honouring these days because their hospital is a mother-baby-friendly hospital, meaning they are supporting and promoting breastfeeding fully.

“The theme is Protecting Breastfeeding. We want to promote breastfeeding so the patients come to understand the importance of breastfeeding even during the pandemic.

“We are not saying feeding children with formula milk is wrong, but breastfeeding remains the best. If you do not have any medical condition, then it is healthy to breastfeed your child,” she said.
