Valuation objections could take months
Following the close of objections to the new valuation roll of the City of Ekurhuleni, residents have asked why they have not yet received feedback regarding their application.
After the objection has been received, the objection will be sent to the municipal valuer, who has to evaluate the objections individually.
The municipal valuer will then issue objection outcome letters for all objections received.
Residents should note that pending the evaluation, the resident does not defer liability of payment of rates.
The finance revenue division, through its account and credit control section, will flag accounts for payment extension for three months in anticipation of the outcome of the objection.
If residents are still unhappy with the outcome of their objection, they can lodge an appeal against the municipal valuer for a specific property. These appeals are heard by an independent valuation board.
City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini in March said there is no fixed date as to when the outcome of the objections will be finalised.
“This process takes months before the objection outcomes can be sent to the City,” Dlamini said.
