WATCH: Supporting the Children4Children project

Cantare Children's Choir and other choirs showed their support towards the project.

Members of the Cantare Children’s Choir, with six other children’s choirs from South Africa, one from Ghana and one from Kenya, participated in a virtual choir project to help children with heart disease.

The Children4Children project was initiated by the Tygerberg Children’s Choir during the lockdown in 2020.

Karina Erasmus, leader of the Tygerberg Choir, wanted to engage choirs from across South Africa and Africa to raise money for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town for a machine used in heart valve operations in the hospital, the only children’s hospital in Africa.

Ida Strydom, Cantare Children’s Choir leader, said it was a privilege for the choir members to sing the song Baba Yetu, the Our Father’s Prayer in Swahili, with the other choirs.

Apart from the Cantare and Tygerberg children’s choir, the Kimberley, the Bloemfontein, Cape Town Children’s Choirs and children’s choirs of the Southern and Eastern Cape, Ghana’s One Voice Choir and the choir of St Andrew’s School in Turi, Kenya, participated in this project.

Each choir sent in video and audio recordings that were edited into one video for a YouTube production. Every 500 times the video is played in full on YouTube, the project receives a contribution from YouTube.

Individuals can also contribute to the collection.
