The Katlehong SAPS hosts a crime summit with church leaders ahead of Easter.

The SAPS attended a meeting at the Katlehong Hall, where a large number of leaders of various local church denominations gathered.
In attendance was the station commander in Katlehong, Brigadier Albertina Vesi; the precinct’s support head commander, Colonel Gcaza; Vispol support commander, Lieutenant Colonel Maele; acting Vispol commander, Lieutenant Shezi; sector managers, Social Crime Prevention; and the CPF chairperson Phindile Ntuli.
The discussions focused on:
• Crime;
• Security around churches;
• Relations between faith-based organisations;
• Robberies; and
• Rape.
Outlined was that various factors regarding crime, such as burglaries, robberies, and rapes frequently happen at churches. Discussions were so robust that everyone shared the sentiment that there must be a follow-up on the progress and outcomes.
At the end of the summit, every leader committed to return to their respective churches and talk to their congregants. Church leaders also pledged to find better ways to deal with crimes at religious institutions.
“It is time we go back to basics and start to heal our communities because church leaders are the spiritual healers of the society,” said Vesi in her closing remarks.
