Ekurhuleni mayoral committee engages EMPD officers amid concerns

The City of Ekurhuleni’s mayoral committee engages with EMPD officers in an effort to resolve concerns, with a commitment to provide feedback and ensure accountability within a week.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s Mayoral Committee (MayCo) met with disgruntled EMPD officers in a bid to address ongoing concerns on March 20.

The meeting, attended by Jongizizwe Dlabathi (MMC for Finance), Alderman Sizakele Masuku (MMC for Community Safety), and Alderman Sivuyile Ngodwana (MMC for Corporate and Shared Services), also saw participation from the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in an observer role.

The engagement served as a platform for open dialogue, with EMPD officers voicing their grievances.

Following extensive discussions, the MayCo delegation pledged to carefully review the raised issues and provide formal feedback within the next seven days.

“We appreciate the constructive engagement with EMPD representatives. For every right, there is a responsibility, and we will give feedback on the issues within a week. The institution will also implement consequence management for those involved in the illegal strike action,” Dlabathi said.

He said that the city is committed to resolving the matters raised and ensuring stability in municipal operations.
A thorough investigation has been launched to identify those involved in the strike, with swift action on consequence management to follow.

Ekurhuleni remains focused on maintaining service delivery and upholding the integrity of its operations as it works toward a resolution.
