Support Lesedi Athletic Club’s half-marathon fundraiser this Reconciliation Day
Join the annual road race at Vosloorus Stadium on December 16 to help LAC raise funds for athlete development and club sustainability.
The Lesedi Athletic Club (LAC) appeals to people to support its annual half-marathon fundraiser at the Vosloorus Stadium on Reconciliation Day, December 16.
The fundraising road race will have races covering 5km, 10km and 21km.
LAC chairperson Jennifer Motsai said the primary aim behind the club’s annual event is to raise funds to keep it operational.
“Without the funds we generate from such races and events, the club won’t survive because we have unemployed members,. The earnings we get from the annual half-marathon fundraiser we use to register our athletes in the ultimate races such as the Comrades Marathon and others.
“Our development teams need running gear, shoes, transport fare and food when participating in various races like the cross-country, track and field and the Soncini Games. We use the money we generate from the annual road race to cover all the costs for our young runners,” Motsai shared.
“Our club, established on April 1, 1989, operates as an NPO, so such initiatives help the club to raise funds, and we appeal to people to come and support our annual race in numbers.
“It will help us immensely if many people register for our annual race because the club will be able to achieve its primary goals and continue to exist,” Motsai explained.
She said they hosted the first annual race in 2019. However, it didn’t attract many people.
“We couldn’t host the annual race in the 2020 and 2021 because of Covid-19. That didn’t discourage us because we returned and hosted another race in 2022, and in that race, the number of people who attended increased, and in 2023, we had a high number of people participate.
“We had almost 1 000 people in that race. We hope that the number of people will go beyond that mark this year,” Motsai expressed.
She said all people who love running are welcome to participate.
“We promise the runners only the best. They will enjoy themselves on Reconciliation Day,” Motsai added.
