Chacklas pool team crowned VTOPA champions
Vosloorus Tavern Owners Pool Association celebrates a thrilling final and plans to expand pool opportunities for youth and women.
Chacklas pool team thrashed Stillwaters Pool squad 4-1 in the final match to champion the Vosloorus Tavern Owners Pool Association (VTOPA) tournament on home turf held at Chacklas Tavern on November 3.
Five teams competed in the tournament.
The VTOPA tournament commenced with Chacklas defeating Mdu’s Pool Tavern squad 4-3 to advance to the semi-finals.
In another encounter, Stillwaters humiliated Mtobho 4-0 to advance to the semi-finals.
Stillwaters continued with its superb form and conquered Mbatha in the semi-final match to secure a spot in the final match. Stillwaters won the match 5-1.
Mtobho team suffered another blow when Chacklas won 4-1 to advance to the final match.
In the final, Stillwaters led the match 1-0 in the first round. Chacklas equalised in the second round and then dominated the third round to grab the lead.
Chacklas extended its lead in the fourth round to 3-1. Chacklas sealed the deal in the fifth round.
The chairperson of the Vosloorus Tavern Owners Pool Association Keagile Mosepele said the players from all teams played very well and he would like to congratulate Chacklas on their win.
“With this association that was formed one year and six months ago, we aim to promote the sport of pool in our area. We are hosting these tournaments on Sundays and they rotate in various taverns. With these tournaments we are giving young pool players a chance to display their playing talents and sharpen their skills,” said Mosepele.
He added that there are already players who come from their association that are competing in the top pool leagues.
“With the sport, we are trying to keep young people away from illegal activities that affect their lives drastically. Other pool teams are welcome to join our association,” said Mosepele.
“We are planning to introduce pool tournaments for women as well because we have realised they have a keen interest in the sport. Our main aim is to have one of the best pool leagues in the Ekurhuleni area,” he concluded.
