Ward 17 Clr Simon Lapping aims to represent the needs of the community and hold the City of Ekurhuleni accountable. Lapping was elected as a ward councillor in 2016.
Ward 17 includes Kempton Park CBD, Cresslawn, Rhodesfield, OR Tambo, Croydon, Spartan, Kelvin Estate, Isando, Jetpark, Witkoppie Ridge, Impala Park, Bardene and Bartlett.
“I want to ensure that residents get the service they pay for as it is their right to get services from properly qualified personnel,” said Lapping.
“It is also important to relay dissatisfaction about poor services to the mayor and his executive. Overcrowded properties and illegal businesses operating in residential areas are among the challenges in Ward 17.
“The high level of homelessness in the CBD; the fact that there is not a single public toilet facility in the CBD is of great concern,” said Lapping.
“The general decay of infrastructure like electricity, water and sewerage and the poor state of municipal facilities is worrying. These are ongoing issues that I am tackling.”

The new Harambee bus route in the CBD, development of council flats on Long Street, new reservoirs in Isando and Witkoppie Ridge and resurfacing roads in Croydon are among the developmental projects the councillor is keeping an eye on.
Lapping said residents can get involved in the decision making processes and developments in the ward and town at large.
“Residents are welcome to attend the monthly ward committee meetings in order to raise issues. Meetings are, however, for now suspended during lockdown.
