Youth hosts indigenious games

Well-known community stalwart in Tembisa, Dumang Choenyane, is spearheading a community project called Kasi Gaming Pro's.

The main aim of the project is to empower youth in the township and the surrounding areas.

During an interview with The Tembisan, the always-smiling Choenyane says after realising the challenges that today’s youth are faced with, he did a survey with some of his friends to identify plans to keep youth off the streets and teach them the importance of refraining from bad things like taking drugs and abusing alcohol.

“I started engaging young people to establish a partnership and came across people like Emmanuel Ramatladi, Nomalanga Nkosi, Tebogo Choenyane, Anathi Ngobeni and Phumzile Choenyane. Through the programme, youth can participate in indigenous games such as soccer, diketo, morababa, bibeke and many more,” he said.

They are going to host the second annual competition on September 28 at 70 Iringa Street, Teanong.

“We are calling on all Tembisans and youth from the surrounding areas to join us for the day,” he said.

Because oflack of resources, Choenyane uses a room in his backyard as an office.

“It does not matter whether one comes from a poor background or not, what matters is the will and zeal to make it in life. It is all in the mind,” he concluded. For more information about the project, contact Choenyane at 083 665 0200.
