The military ambulance transporting the injured child broke down on its way to Tembisa Hospital.
Danielle Dooley, spokesman for Emer-G-Med, said one of their ambulances met them on route and took the injured child to hospital.
She said the girl sustained a fractured left femur and a small bump to the head, but was otherwise unhurt.
Dooley said that it is unclear why a military ambulance transported the girl.
According to her the girl was hit by an elderly woman. The woman was in great shock but did not sustain any injuries.
