Watch: Residents demand timeline for community issues
During a mayoral feedback meeting, the residents' committee wanted to know when the metro was planning on responding to their service delivery demands
BIRCH Acres extension residents demanded to know when their service delivery mandate would be addressed by the metro.
Speaking on behalf of Birch Acres Residents’ Committee at a Mayoral Imbizo feedback meeting in Birch Acres extension on November 18, Ronald Mashaba demanded to know when the metro was planning on addressing the community. The demands were handed over to the metro during a service delivery protest on August 29.
“We didn’t want to go to the streets on the 29th, but we held the protest because we (community) felt neglected. We followed due processes, including writing letters to our councillor, we compiled petitions to the relevant departments to try address our issues,” Mashaba said.
“The metro promised to hand back a concrete report on the issues by either the end of November or early December. When will our issues be solved, in which year and at what costs? Just a timeline of those plans.”
On August 29, Birch Acres residents took to the streets in a service delivery protest over issues they were unhappy about.
Their concerns included the lack of a school, clinic, library, community hall and policing in Birch Acres extensions 23-44.
