Construction work on the N1 this weekend will disrupt traffic

Motorists are warned to keep a look out for these roadworks during this period, to reduce speed and obey all traffic signs and instructions given by road marshals and traffic officers

The construction of the new Bridal Veil Road Overpass Bridge south of the Allandale Road interchange commenced in November.

It is part of the Waterfall City development by Attacq Waterfall Investment Company (AWIC). The construction of the bridge is necessary to improve traffic flows to Waterfall City and Atterbury Road environs.

The construction of the bridge will commence with the construction of a support pier in the central median which will take about three months to complete.

In order to achieve this, the existing lanes at the site of the new bridge need to be moved slightly outwards, on both carriageways, in order to provide the necessary workspace in the median.

Motorists should take note that traffic on the south bound carriageway on the N1 freeway in the vicinity of the Allandale Road Interchange will be affected as from 9pm on Friday, February 6, until 5pm on Saturday, February 7.

The north bound carriageway will be affected from 9pm on Saturday until 5pm on Sunday evening, February 8.

During this period, five lanes will be reduced to two lanes on the southbound carriageway and six lanes to two on the northbound carriageway.

Motorists are warned to keep a look out for these roadworks during this period, to reduce speed and obey all traffic signs and instructions given by road marshals and traffic officers. Some delays are to be expected.
