Scores of taxis escorted to Germiston by traffic department

One taxi driver told EXPRESS they were being impounded for having no permits

SCORES of taxis were being stopped around Kempton Park on Friday morning.

The taxis were seen lined up on the side along Pretoria Road from about 7.45am, possibly earlier.

According to one taxi driver, they were being taken to Germiston because they did not have permits.

Gauteng Traffic Department, the metro police as well as police were seen escorting the vehicles along Pretoria Road,into CR Swart Drive and then into Monument Road.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesman, Busaphi Nxumalo, said further details would be provided once the taxis have reached Germiston.

“From there we’ll be able to account for the number of taxis impounded and the reasons behind this,” Nxumalo confirmed.
