SPCA reach out to Pomona residents
The SPCA appeal for donations of pet food and clothes and food for the people
KEMPTON Park SPCA is helping a disadvantaged Pomona community through its outreach programme.
The SPCA is collecting food and clothes for the people as well as pet food for their dogs.
This comes after SPCA inspector, Charmaine Joubert, had received a complaint from the community about animals not being looked after on Orchid Street.
“When she went out to do her inspection, she found minimal welfare resources. Charmaine educated the pet owners on the plot and they complied. However, the pet owners were really underprivileged and would rather give to their animals before they gave to themselves,” Melissa Bailey, manager of the SPCA, said.
Staff at the SPCA then decided to assist this community through an outreach programme where Joubert went out and dipped, vaccinated, de-wormed and handed out dog food to the people living on the plot in February.
“The pet owners were also educated on how to properly take care of their dogs.”
Clothes were also donated to the people.
“We appeal to the public to help with not only donations of food for the animals but also clothes and food for the people on this property. Non-perishable goods are preferable.”
Donations can be dropped off at Kempton Park SPCA at 130 Fitter Road, Spartan, or contact the offices on 011-975-6537/8.
