The RTMC has encouraged drivers to check and renew their vehicle and driving licences before Easter travel to avoid penalties and delays.

Motorists planning to travel during the Easter long weekend are urged to ensure their vehicle licence discs and driving licence cards are valid, as hundreds of thousands are set to expire at the end of March.

According to information published by the South African Government News Agency, the National Traffic Information System (NaTIS) indicates that 700 399 vehicle licence discs will expire during this period.

The provinces with the highest number of expiring vehicle licences are Gauteng (259 563), Western Cape (116 633) and KZN (98 735).

Drivers in Gauteng, Gqeberha and Kariega in the Eastern Cape can also use the online platform to pre-book appointments to renew their driving licence cards. Motorists in other provinces are advised to visit their nearest driving licence testing centres.

In addition, 128 080 driving licence cards are set to expire by the end of March.
