Ivory Park soccer star tournament’s a success as Ama2000 becomes victors of the tournament

Ivory Park residents enjoyed a weekend of spectacular football when they came in their numbers to watch the two-day Nkosinathi Ononogbu’s Top 8 tournament which saw Ama2000 crowned annual champions after beating Gezani FC 5-4 on penalty shoot-out at Ivory Park on June 17.

At the end of the mandatory 90 minutes, the teams were level at 1-1, and soon thereafter had to go on penalty shoot-out.

Ama2000 took a lead in the first half, bu Gezani FC got their equaliser in the second half.

The tournament was hosted by Nkosinathi Ononogbu supported by Creams Sport Management.

In earlier matches, Makang Supers lost 4-0 to Gezani FC and Ama2000 beat Hlalefang FC 3-0.

Bandile Mnguni and Keletso Masumbuka walked away with the Player of the Tournament awards, each earning R300 prize money for their efforts. Grant Mathabathe was awarded Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, also taking home R300, with the winners each getting a pair of school shoes to donate to any person of their choice.

Coach of Gezani FC Glen Gezani said: “We are a Mamelodi-based team, and came hear to take back our title home, but unfortunately we lost. Every player made an effort; it was and exciting tournament.”

Ama2000 coach Dalton Molepo said his team prepared well for the tournament.

“We prepared well even though it was not easy to lift the trophy,” said Molepo.

Pontso Modumo of Cream Sports Management said the tournament was meant to entertain football lovers, and to give youngsters a chance to show off their talents.

“It was a very good tournament thanks to all the football fans who came in large numbers,” said Modumo.

“We of Cream Sport Management have selected a number of players we hope will play in teams affiliated to the National First Division (NFD) and the ABC Motsepe League,”said Modumo.

Khamogelo Maloka , a 20- year-old player, has already been earmarked for one of the NFD teams,” added Modumo.
