Grandmother dies in early morning collision

The grandmother suffered extensive injuries and she sadly did not survive.

ER24 paramedics were called out to a fatal accident scene this morning, 14 October around 7am.

The fatal collision had taken place on the R563 road in the Maropeng area near the Cradle of Humankind.

On arrival, paramedics found that a Mercedes-Benz had crashed into the back of a sedan in which a grandmother, mother and five-year-old boy were travelling.

The woman who was alone in the Mercedes did not suffer physical injuries and required no further medical care. She later left the scene privately.

The grandmother, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the sedan, suffered extensive injuries and she sadly did not survive.

“Paramedics declared the elderly woman deceased, with nothing more that could be done to save her life,” says ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.

The woman who was driving the vehicle, and her son who was sitting in the back, were treated by the Advanced Life Support paramedics on scene and were rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance to be treated for the critical injuries they had sustained.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
