Power outage: From bad to worse, municipality confirms
More bad news regarding the latest power outage affecting large parts of town as the municipality revealed repair work may take some time. On top of that, the public can also expect water supply interruptions.
Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Energy Services has bad news regarding the latest power outage currently affecting Kenmare, Factoria, Chamdor, Mindalore and Noordheuwel.
MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu said these outages are due to acts of vandalism and cable theft at Eskom’s Krugersdorp mini-substation Feeder 4, which supplies the above-mentioned areas.
“Although Eskom technicians are on site and the extent of the damage has been assessed, repair materials must be sourced before restoration work can begin. Unfortunately, an estimated time for power restoration cannot be provided at this stage,” she stated.

Mahlangu also said this would have an effect on the water supply as the act of vandalism disrupted water pumping operations.
“The system relies heavily on electricity. As a result, large parts of Mogale will be experiencing low water pressure or no water supply. To minimise the impact on residents, water tankers will be deployed to the most affected areas starting from midday. Currently, tankers are servicing informal settlements as part of their daily routine,” she informed the community.
“Please note that water pressure is also low at tanker fill-up stations which may cause delays, we thus ask for your patience and understanding. The exact locations of water tanker deployments will be shared after midday, once tankers have refilled and are dispatched. We urge residents to remain patient during this challenging time,” she concluded.
