TV weekly must watch

We’ve rounded up three great shows to watch this week. A dark fantasy drama television series based on a comic book, a story of an Irish police officer who hides from people and fills his days with comfort food and a local reality show searching for SA’s next baking sensation.

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams, gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way. Watch The Sandman on Netflix.

Set in the insular fictional village of Duneen, West Cork, on the edge of Ireland, a place with its own climate and rhythms, Holding is a darkly comic murder mystery adapted from TV presenter Graham Norton’s funny and tenderly perceptive best-selling debut novel. Olivier Award-winning actor Conleth Hill plays police officer Sergeant PJ Collins, a gentle soul who hides from people and fills his days with comfort food and half-hearted police work. When the body of long-lost local legend Tommy Burke is discovered, PJ is called on to solve a serious crime for the first time in his career, and he finally has to connect with the village he has tried hard to avoid. Holding starts August 11 on BritBox.

Are you a baking lover? If yes, you should watch the Taste Master SA baking competition. The SA show will display high drama and excellent food, and the best baker will go home with a mouth-watering prize in this third season. Elevating the series even further is the addition of expert guest judges, who present a Masterclass to the bakers in addition to critiquing their creations. They will be sharing their tips and techniques with contestants and viewers at home on how to elevate their baking. From making perfect shortcrust pastry to traditional bread baking and everything in between, the experts have incredible insight to share, adding another exciting element to the competition. Tune into the third season of The Taste Master SA every Friday at 7pm or watch the repeat every Sunday at 3pm on SABC 2.
