No under-25s allowed: Zioux announces head chefs ahead of grand opening

Zioux believes having these top chefs shows how serious they are about the food.

Ahead of the grand opening of Zioux (pronounced zoo) in Sandton, the restaurant and bar has announced its head chefs.

Zioux isn’t just an ordinary new restaurant, they have been quite mysterious describing their urban eatery as a playground for the adventurous and something like no other.

The venture is from The Marble Group and patrons must be over the age of 25 to make a booking. They must also follow the strict dress code.

The creators, top celebrity chef David Higgs and founder of The Marble Group, Gary Kyriacou, announced that Mike van Rooyen and Moses Moloi would be the two head chefs of Zioux.

Van Rooyen has worked with Higgs before at Marble and at Rust en Vrede. Higgs says it is great to have Van Rooyen back in their team and that Moloi “brings incredible local and international experience.”

Moloi is from FYN restaurant – recently ranked number 92 on the World’s Best Restaurants list – where he led the team alongside Ashley Moss. He was also the top-performing student from the South African Chefs Association (SACA) and has previously worked at Greenhouse Restaurant and internationally at the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida.

Van Rooyen’s CV is just as impressive. He did four seasons as a private yacht chef and has interned at Michelin star-rated restaurants Frantzén in Stockholm, Oud Sluis in the Netherlands and The Ledbury in London.

Zioux believes having these top chefs shows how serious they are about the food.

Van Rooyen says the restaurant’s food will be fun, playful and “it’s going to be a real culinary adventure”.
