Young journalist writing up a storm

"Breaking boundaries, going beyond measures to bring forth news which is worthy of being published and seen as the truth is my aim. Say no to the Secrecy Bill, they can’t muzzle us up!" said Thuli.

BARBERTON – During the past week some Barbertonians might have noticed an energetic young lady, with a camera, attending functions in our town. Since yesterday, you might also have seen her byline on our website.

Her name is Thuli Zulu and as part of her final year in journalism at Varsity Colleges’ Pretoria campus, she has to get hands-on experience at a newspaper.

Thuli is a born and bred Barbertonian, who attended both Barberton Primary and Barberton High Schools. She started with Barberton Times on Monday and will be leaving again on Friday, November 15. From the moment she set foot inside our office, she was given plenty of assignments. Over the last week, we made sure she covered a variety of news stories – hard news, community news, sport and school news.

We asked her to write a short bio about herself and this is what she had to say:

“From a small town with big dreams, I am a student from Varsity College. Studying journalism has opened my eyes and mind. It has changed my perceptions on how I view the world around me. Breaking boundaries, going beyond measures to bring forth news which is worthy of being published and seen as the truth is my aim. Say no to the Secrecy Bill, they can’t muzzle us up!”

Should you bump into Thuli at a function, be sure to say hello.
She is proof that young people from Barberton can follow their dreams and which is more – they can make it reality.
