Nelspruit residents assist in two separate arrests

In two unrelated incidents, gutsy Nelspruit residents took it upon themselves to track down and corner suspected thieves in Melkweg Street and Mostert Street before calling CSG High-Tech and the SAPS to arrest the suspects.

Daring residents assisted CSG Hi-Tech in making two separate residential arrests during the first four days of September.

The first arrest on Friday was made in Melkweg Street in the evening.

CSG Hi-Tech’s Mr Callum MacPherson elaborated. “We responded to an emergency call on the neighbourhood watch group. When we arrived the client had already cornered the suspect, so we made an easy arrest,” he said.

Mid-morning on Monday, another suspect was arrested in Mostert Street when residents caught the thief in the act.

“I was working when at about 09:30 I heard glass shattering across the road. Looking from my balcony I saw a man with a brick wrapped in cloth making his way through the broken window,” said Mr Ivan Cornelius.

“I rushed down, called my neighbour, and we ran across the road to the house where the suspect had broken in.

“When we arrived he was hiding under the bed and refused to come out. I left my neighbour to keep watch and called Hi-Tech and the cops to come make the arrest,” said Cornelius.

SAPS officers apprehended a suspect in Mostert Street on Monday September 4.

According to MacPherson’s records, this was not the suspect’s first brush will the law. “He had been arrested by CSG Hi-Tech before,” said MacPherson.

The suspect had spent some time in jail since. It is not clear what had led to his second arrest. “He was released in February,” said MacPherson.

At the time of going to press the SAPS were not able to comment on the arrests.
