Riverview Prep hosts a family night out under the stars
Families had the opportunity to socialise under the stars, dance and drum with an African cultural group and camp out at Riverview Prep last Friday night.
MALALANE – A bonfire, the scent of braaivleis in the air and the sound of African drums and singing created a cosy atmosphere at Riverview Prep’s Under the African Sky event on Friday night, despite overcast and cool conditions.
Tables were set out and tents pitched on the school’s sports field during the early evening. Some families opted to extend the fun by camping.
The children played a game of soccer and created their own fun on the lawn, while the adults relaxed and chatted with friends at the tables lit with lanterns.

About 120 people attended. Each family was equipped with a cooler box and enjoyed their favourite meat accompanied by pap, sheba and salad courtesy of the organisers, the Parents’ Association.

The Simunye African Dance Group, a non-profit organisation, entertained the crowd with traditional dancing and singing and even drew some of the audience into their exuberant performances.

Children also had the opportunity to play on the group’s drums, to their great excitement.
The school hopes to host more of these community events in future.
