Zola buddies up for Rhinos
Rhino Buddies and Mpumalanga Parks and Tourism Agency are launching a conservation outreach program to reach 90 000 learners and their educators in the month of August.
NELSPRUIT – Zola Budd Pieterse is the patron of an anti-poaching campaign which will culminate in a gala day on September 28 at the LVCC grounds in Nelspruit.
On the day a Run for Rhino Challenge fun run is planned in conjunction with the LVCC Running Club, the largest of its kind in Mpumalanga. Activities will include a display of horsemanship by a local riding club and the SAPS Dog unit.
The annual Rudaman’s Trophy Potjiekos Competition will be held in aid of rhino protection. Entries will be limited to 20.
There will also be a number of arts, craft and food stalls.
The top 45 athletes, out of 1 350 competing in three heats, will be able to run with Budd Pieterse on September 28. The heats will be held at the following venues:
• Mooiplaas on August 17, close to Songimvela Provincial Park.
• Bushbuckridge on August 24 close to Manyeleti, Andover and Blyde Provincial Parks.
• Moutse on August 31 close to Loskop Dam Provincial Park.
All posters and printed matter will carry the Rhino Buddies “Stop Poaching” mobile number to be used to alert authorities or to leave anonymous tip-offs regarding poaching. It can be voice mail’s or a SMS. All information will be investigated. The number to dial is
