JUST IN: Truck driver survives 70-metre plummet

The recovery is currently underway and it is expected to take no more than two hours.

PILGRIM’S REST – A truck driver miraculously escaped unscathed after his vehicle plummeted down a cliff estimated to be around 70 metres high. The accident occurred on the R533, around 16:00 this afternoon.

According to Willem Swart of Van Wettens Towing, the recovery is currently underway. Though the exact cause isn’t known, it is presumed that the driver lost control of the vehicle after which it left the road.

He estimates that though challenging, the recovery will take no more than two hours and that minimal disruption will be caused in the process.

He however urged motorists to practice caution when approaching the scene.
