One person has been killed and another slightly injured when a truck and a vehicle crashed on the R38 at Nelshoogte near eManzana just before 15:30 this afternoon, April 28.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’ spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said the driver of the vehicle was fatally injured during the crash, while the truck driver sustained only minor injuries.
The cause of the accident is not known at this stage.
Mmusi said following the crash, some people in the area had wanted to assault the truck driver, and there were also reports of people looting the truck.

“People should refrain from looting. It is extremely inhumane to take advantage of an accident. Once an accident has occurred, it becomes a crime scene, and you can be arrested if you are found looting,” said Mmusi.
“We condemn these actions in the strongest possible terms. It is not the first time we have seen looting happening at crash scenes. We have seen this happen in the Matsulu, Malalane and Bushbuckridge areas, too.”
