Book Club: Excellent new books to read this weekend

We advise you to cancel any plans you had for the weekend. Once you’ve started either of these books, you’re not going to want to go anywhere until you’ve turned the last page.

If there’s one book you read this month, make sure it’s The Last House on Needless Street.

With rave, rave reviews (Stephen King said he’d read it and was ‘blow away …. I haven’t read anything this exciting since Gone Girl’), Catriona Ward’s psychological thriller is the story of Ted, who lives with his daughter and his cat in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street.

It’s the story of a murderer, a stolen child, revenge. It’s a story that twists and turns between horrific and heartbreaking, between tender and terrifying, between haunting and humerous.

You’ll think you know what’s happened. You’ll be wrong! Viper, R302 from Exclusive Books.

Boyband good looks. A famous girlfriend. A happy-go-lucky personality. And a starring role on the nation’s favorite reality TV show, Laid in Essex. Danny ‘Abs’ Abbingdon was living the dream. But then a party, which was meant to be an intimate gathering of just a few close friends, grew out of control.

And after a night of heavy drinking in the village pub, a local girl was reported missing. Abs and his friends were the last to see her alive.

No one was ever charged, but the controversy destroyed Ab’s career. Fast forward three years, the celebrity who once captured the hearts of millions is opening Southend’s new branch of Poundland. But one his mates has just been murdered. And the police are not only on the hunt for his killer, but are also relooking at what happened to the missing girl.
