How to make delicious mashed potatoes

Here's a helpful suggestion to keep in mind for the next time you have mashed potatoes on the menu...

We all have our little family secrets when it comes to making the ultimate mashed potatoes, but here’s one that’s been buzzing on TikTok and it comes from comedian Jourdyn Jeaux Parks, promising the best flavour with very little effort.

Here it is:

Simply peel and slice the potatoes in half and boil them in chicken, beef or vegetable stock (depending what you’re serving them with) with an extra cup of water and a pinch of salt. By cooking the potatoes in stock, the flavour gets locked in, and adding milk and butter simply makes them more creamy because the taste is already there.

Cook’s Tips

  • Always mash potatoes when they are still warm.
  • If your mash is lumpy, push it through  sieve or use a handheld beater for a few minutes to smooth it out.
  • Add cream cheese to mashed potatoes to make them extra creamy.
  • Mash your potatoes with plain yoghurt for a healthier option that’s still creamy.  

Heard about TikTok’s latest feta craze? Put potato wedges in a roasting pan with a block of feta in the middle. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, add a few peeled garlic cloves and some dried thyme. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour and then mix together and serve. Creamy and delicious, these are extra special with roast lamb.
