Middelburg crime hotspots

The Middelburg police have identified the following crime hotspots and advise residents to be vigilant when entering these areas.

In the CBD cases, residential house break-ins have been found to take place in Meyer Street, SADC Street, Walter Sisulu Street, Oos Street, Joubert Street and O.R. Tambo Street. The majority of the crimes took place between 06:00 and 18:00 and electrical appliances, food and money were taken.

Hlalamnandi and Rockdale have also been flagged as break-in hotspots. Peak times are 10:00 in the morning to 18:00 at night.

In Aerorand break-ins occured in Pongola Street, Gamka Street, Bloedrivier Street, Kameelrivier Street and Verdoorn Street in Extension 18.

Cowen Ntuli Street, Jan Cilliers Street and De Villiers Street have been flagged as high risk areas in Gholfsig and Clubville.

In Dennesig President Brand and Milner Streets fell prey to break-ins.

Police warn of an increase in truck robberies in Sector 2, usually when drivers make use of poorly lit rest stops. Truck drivers are robbed of their belongings and cash when they slow down at off-ramps next to the N4.

A sharp increase of theft out of motor vehicles has been reported in the CBD, especially on the corners of Walter Sisulu and SADC Street and Lilian Ngoyi and Cowen Ntuli Street as well as at the Wonderpark Centre next to Walter Sisulu Street.

Members of the public are urged to lock their doors and keep their windows closed especially when waiting at a traffic light. When getting out of your car, walk around the back and check if all the doors and the boot are closed.

Two instances of theft of motor vehicles took place in Rockdale and at the Nasaret Hostels.

Police urge that vehicle owners who park their cars outside take extra cautionary steps to ensure the safety of their property.
