Update: Graveyard suspects not in court

The "graveyard boys" who allegedly stole metal plates from the Tokologo Cemetery last week did not appear in court and are scott-free.

The two boys who were initially charged with violation of graves might be out there violating more graves.

Lindiwe Mahlangu and Maxwell Sithole were in court on Monday to follow up on the case but there was no case to follow up.

The two community leaders enquired at the police and they did not have clear answers as to why the boys were not in court.

The police said the case is still “under investigation” and that they must wait 48 hours.

The Observer also phoned the Middelburg court with the case number but there was no record in court of the graveyard accused.

“The docket was taken for decision,” said Captain Khanyisile Zwane.
