March against women and child abuse

A massive march against violence towards women and children will be held in Rockdale on National Women’s Day next week Wednesday.

Civic organisations like Men of the City, the Greater Nkangala Rehabilitation Centre and various pastoral forums in town and Mhluzi will partake in the march.

The march has been organised in Rockdale because Rockdale is one of the four hotspots identified by the police to be areas where violence against women and children is more prevalent.

The other three areas identified are the CBD, Doornkop and Extension 24.

The march will kick off at 09:30 at Alex’s Shop in Rockdale where after participants will proceed to the church in Extension 24 where social workers, psychologists, pastors and representatives from the Victim Support Centre will be waiting to give valuable information to women on how to start a support network for victims of abuse at grassroots level.

Groups of women from all communities will be taught what to do to assist and empower victims within their respective communities.

All men are invited to participate and make their voice heard against women and child abuse.

For more information on how to get involved contact Pastor Joseph Ndlovu on 072 322 4563 or Annerie Weber on 079 893 6823.
