Actress Tessa Twala poised to make lasting impact in the entertainment industry and beyond
“I was a corporate girl. The whole of my family is in the entertainment and arts, so I thought, you know what, I am going to try the corporate world,” says the Waterfall City actress.

Waterfall City-based actress and media personality Tessa Twala (35) is on an inspiring mission to motivate others through the art of storytelling.
With her impressive talent and charisma, she aims to connect with audiences and evoke emotions through her performances.
Known for her remarkable roles in productions such as Pusha Pressa Phanda, Kedibone, and Netflix’s The Queenstown Kings, Twala has recently earned recognition as an AMMA Awards nominee for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

In addition, she has successfully completed a one-year fitness campaign and has made an impactful appearance in another Netflix film titled Piano Love.
“I was a corporate girl. The whole of my family is in the entertainment and arts, so I thought, you know what, I am going to try the corporate world,” Twala reflected on her journey.
She dedicated several years to this corporate environment, navigating various job changes. However, during this time, she realised her passion for modelling, which she had pursued in her youth. This decision led her back to the industry, culminating in an audition for a show called Zabalaza, which ultimately propelled her deeply into the fascinating world of acting.

Twala is not just a skilled actress but also a passionate advocate for natural hair and fitness. In the current year, she has focused intently on her personal development journey, meticulously documenting her progress along the way. Through her experiences, she aims to inspire other women to embark on their paths to self-love, empowerment, and authentic self-expression.
“With this new year, I am trying to approach things differently than I have in the past. Everything feels like a new experience; I am quite unsure about it, but I felt a strong urge to pivot and change my approach a bit. I’m curious to see where this new direction will take me.”
With a wealth of experience in the entertainment industry, Twala understands the complexities and challenges that come with it. She firmly believes it is one of the toughest industries to thrive in, often filled with struggles and obstacles.

“One of the most challenging aspects of my career, as I have often mentioned, is that there are many ‘no’s in this line of work. You need to develop a tough skin and recognise that it’s not always personal, rather, it is about what casting directors are specifically looking for.”
When it comes to advice for aspiring actors and actresses, Twala is passionate and heartfelt. “My advice is to always believe in yourself. I’ve encountered many people who doubted my abilities, saying, ‘You’re not good at this, you’re not good at that.’ However, some recognised my potential, saying, ‘God, you are exactly what we are looking for’.”
