800 homeowners outside Acornhoek receive title deeds

The handover formed part of the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s continuous Letsema Service Delivery Drive.

The Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s (BLM) executive mayor, Cllr Sylvia Nxumalo, handed over 200 refuse bins and 800 title deeds to community members of the Orpen Gate and Tintswalo villages outside Acornhoek, which formed part of the municipality’s continuous Letsema Service Delivery Drive on Friday April 19.

Together with community members and stakeholders, Nxumalo also conducted a clean-up campaign at the entrance of Orpen Gate before the handover at the village’s sportsground.

Nxumalo said the title deeds will afford home owners to live freely without any confusions. Such as the elated Thoko Mabaso, who told Mpumalanga News that receiving her title deed was a great achievement for her family. “I am very excited to fully own my house in Tintswalo Village. I have been waiting for a long time for this day, and it calls for a joyous celebration,” she said.

In her address, Nxumalo also encouraged the community members to manage their waste through recycling, reusing especially to earn a living. “As the saying goes, ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.’ We want to encourage all communities within the BLM to not dispose their waste illegally, but to find ways to recycle their waste into good use, which could also earn them a living. We have a buyback centre in Acornhoek that the community can make use of in terms of selling their recyclable waste.”

Nxumalo said she believes if the community adopts waste management methods and makes use of the tools they have received, it will attract investors into various areas. “Cleanliness is next to godliness. We want to attract investors from our bordering countries and provinces. We have potential tourists passing by Bushbuckridge, and we want to be an attractive area for them. If more tourists come in, there will be more job opportunities,” she said.
