Toddler safe after witnessing shooting

The toddler who witnessed the shooting between her mother and father remains safely in the custody of family members.

Detectives are investigating what is believed to be a murder-suicide, which happened on Tuesday night, Roodepoort Record reported.

It is believed the man shot dead his wife before turning the gun on himself.

Honeydew police spokesperson Karen Jacobs said officers had responded to a complaint of a shooting incident at a townhouse complex in Weltevreden Park.

According to Jacobs, police found the bodies of the man (31) and woman (29) at the scene, both with gunshot wounds.

The couple had already been declared dead by paramedics.

Jacobs said the police station had not received previous complaints about domestic violence between the couple.

“The couple wasn’t married according to our information. The girl received trauma counselling on scene and is now residing with other family members,” said Jacobs.

“Circumstances surrounding the shooting are what we are investigating.”

In December, a man allegedly shot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself in Alveda Park, near Kibler Park, Johannesburg.

Mondeor police confirmed a man (30) shot his girlfriend (29) before shooting himself after a heated argument.

A murder case has been opened, and an inquest is being investigated.
