Manhunt after taxi owner shot dead

Police are looking for the killers of a 60-year-old taxi owner who was shot dead in Norkem Park, Gauteng.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Sekgobela said Rapson Mbazima Ngoveni was gunned down in his car at 5.30pm on Friday on the corner of Mooirivier Drive and Maraboe Street, Kempton Express reported.

Sekgobela said Ngoveni was driving a grey 4×4 Trail Blazer Chevrolet when he stood at a stop sign, and a white Toyota Tazz stopped close to him.

The occupants walked up to his vehicle and opened fire. He died on the scene, added Sekgobela.

Police found 15 cartridges on the scene. They believe he had been at a taxi meeting, as a diary was found in his car, said Sekgobela.

Investigations are ongoing.

Last Wednesday, a taxi driver was shot dead at the Bree Street taxi rank in the Johannesburg CBD.

“A taxi driver was shot dead this morning [Wednesday]. We do not know what led to the shooting yet. Officers are questioning witnesses,” said police spokesperson Inspector Edna Mamonyane.

No arrests have been made.
