VIDEO: Siblings ‘assaulted’ by police

A case has been opened after the alleged assault of three siblings at the hands of police in KwaZulu-Natal.

The matter had been reported at the Isipingo Police Station, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.

Isipingo police spokesperson Captain David Ragavan said: “We can confirm that a case has been opened at our station, and the matter is being investigated”.

The incident, which was partially captured on CCTV footage, was said to have been sparked during a dispute over a parking spot last week.

The alleged victims, Ashie (36), Nolene (24) and Shelina Outar (33), whose father Tony Outar (55) is the owner of Tony’s Car Sales, a liquor store and Tony’s Sports Bar and Restaurant, claimed to have been assaulted by Metro police officers.

Ashie Outar said a police officer slapped him after she had parked in his private parking space outside his business, causing him to park behind her vehicle.

The officer then wrote him a ticket, which he crumpled and threw away.

Nolene Outar, who witnessed the incident, tried to intervene.

“I asked the two female cops why they hit my brother, and for no reason, one of the cops grabbed me by the hair and pulled out a clump of my hair while the other pulled out her gun,” she said.

“As the situation intensified, two more police vehicles arrived and parked on the main road. My brother tried to explain the problem to the other cops, but he was met with hostility.”

The third sibling, Shelina Outar, later intervened, and all three were charged for assault and resisting arrest.

Numerous efforts for comment from Metro police proved unsuccessful.

This after video footage of Roseline Appolis (50) being violently handled by police in the Western Cape emerged in December.

Warning: This video contains violence and foul language.

Video footage shows Appolis on the ground and a man believed to be a police officer trying to handcuff her.

One of the men trying to handcuff Appolis is then seen deliberately stepping on her head as he “climbs over” her.
