Car thieves nabbed while stuck in traffic

Car thieves found themselves stuck in a traffic jam and were effortlessly arrested after a tanker accident in Durban.

A Pro Force operation team on the way to Isipingo turned on to the N2 from the M7 south-bound and were soon stuck in the traffic from the accident on Tuesday morning.

They suddenly picked up a tracker signal from a Toyota Hilux that had been stolen in Pietermaritzburg in the early hours of the morning, Highway Mail reported.

The signal from the tracking unit grew stronger as the team worked their way through the traffic. Eventually, the team had to stop and walk in between cars to get closer to the stolen vehicle, which was also stuck in the traffic.

The vehicle was located with the suspects in it. They were then apprehended and handed over to the Vehicle Theft Unit in Pietermaritzburg.

Pro Force’s David Walsh said the suspects surrendered to defeat. “Jeremy Berry and Pieter Laubscher were the ones on the road at the time. The suspects were caught off guard and didn’t put up a fight, as they couldn’t go anywhere,” Walsh said.
