Tributes pour in for murdered NMMU student

Tributes continue to pour in on social media for 19-year-old Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) student, Asadullah Ajimudin, who passed away on Tuesday.

Ajimudin, a second-year computer science student, was brutally attacked by unknown assailants at his flat in the Summerstrand area of Port Elizabeth over the weekend.

He suffered brain damage and was comatose following the attack. He had to be placed on a ventilator which was switched off on Tuesday.

“We cannot begin to imagine the shock and trauma this must have induced on his family and can only pray for his wellbeing,” the NMMU vice-chancellor, Professor Derrick Swartz, said in a statement.

“NMMU furthermore calls on the police to make every effort to swiftly track down, arrest and hand over these savages to the courts and for the law to put them away for good,” he added.

His funeral service was held at the Malabar Cemetery in Port Elizabeth later today. No arrests have been made.
