Mastering the art of the morning meal

Breakfast is one of the easiest ways to give yourself a head start. Unfortunately, this crucial meal is often neglected on account of our busy schedules.

In 2024, it’s time to start prioritising it again. Here are five tips to help you make your morning meal a habit.

Stick to a routine

Repetition is a critical part of building any habit, and eating breakfast is no different. By incorporating breakfast into an achievable morning routine, it’ll be easier to remember. Make an effort to include a timeslot for breakfast when you start planning out your mornings. If you consistently eat at the same time, it’ll quickly start to become second nature.

Prepare the night before

Mornings are busy. But you can account for this by preparing your breakfast the night before. This could mean chopping up some fruit and having a fruit salad ready to go, preparing some overnight oats, or even portioning out everything you need to make a 10-minute porridge the next day. Aside from it being incredibly practical, preparing your breakfast in advance is also a great way to get you excited for your morning meal.

Drink your breakfast

If you struggle to eat in the morning, it may be worth turning to a liquid breakfast. Something like a smoothie or a protein shake is super easy to make and can give you the nutritional boost you need to get your day going.

If these options still feel too heavy for you so early in the morning, maybe you could try a herbal tea to kickstart your metabolism and take your breakfast with you to have later on in the morning. Don’t just skip breakfast because you aren’t hungry yet.

Keep nutritious grab-and-go snacks on hand

While eating a well-prepared meal is the ultimate goal for breakfast, it’s always a good idea to have some back-up options on hand for the days when you just can’t catch a break. You’ll want to make sure that these snacks are still nutritious and that they will sustain your energy levels for a prolonged period of time. Think things like protein bars, bananas and protein chips.
