25-hour Joburg water disruption this weekend

Large parts of Johannesburg will experience 25-hour water disruptions this coming weekend, the city’s water service provider said.

The disruptions will happen from 2pm on February 7 to 3pm on February 8 for maintenance to be carried out at the Eikenhof pump station.

Having been originally scheduled for last month, the maintenance work was postponed by Rand Water to communicate with all its necessary stakeholders.

Some of the areas that will be affected include, but are not limited to: Constantia Kloof, parts of Northriding, Kya Sands, Lanseria, Honeydew and Roodepoort North.

Southgate, Westbury, Newlands, Langlaagte, Fordsburg, Melville, Auckland Park and Greenside will also experience disruptions, while large parts of Soweto – including Diepkloof, Meadowlands, Protea and Orlando – will also be affected.

Water will reportedly be supplied at reduced capacity, resulting in poor pressures.

However, Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale said normal water supply would largely go uninterrupted.

“When [the maintenance] happens, residents and the municipalities’ reservoirs will still have enough water,” he told The Citizen in January.

According to Johannesburg Water, tanks will be provided at hospitals and other strategic points in areas that will be affected.
