Brothers shot in Benoni robbery
No arrests have been made after two men were shot and wounded during a house robbery in Brentwood Park, Benoni, on the East Rand earlier today.
Benoni cluster police spokesperson Lieutenant Nomsa Sekele said the two brothers, one in his 40s and another in his 50s, were shot and wounded by the suspects during the attack, Benoni City Times reported.
One of the brothers was shot in the head and the other in the upper and lower body. The men were transported to hospital in a critical condition.
“According to the 78-year-old mother of the two victims, they went to bed at 9.30pm, and at about 3am, she heard a noise coming from the passage,” added Sekele.
Sekele said the mother stood up, opened her bedroom door and saw her sons lying on the floor with two armed men standing next to them. She saw another robber standing at the front door. The men made off with the woman’s handbag.
Sekele said the men gained entrance into the home by using a crowbar to open the front door. A case of house robbery has been opened.
In a separate incident, a 33-year-old was shot and killed during an armed robbery in Centurion, Pretoria, last month.
Lourens Botha, vice-chairperson of Lyttelton CPF and chairperson of Lyttelton CPF sector 2, said six armed men robbed a store on the corner of Station Road and Botha Avenue.
“One man was shot and another hit over the head by the robbers. The wounded man was taken to Steve Biko Hospital, where he later died from extensive injuries,” Botha added.
