Chabane truck driver case postponed

The truck driver accused of causing the crash that killed former minister of public service and administration Collins Chabane and his two bodyguards appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court today.

The case against Amukelani Rikhotso, who is facing three charges of culpable homicide, was postponed to September 25, Capricorn Review reported.

Chabane and his two bodyguards, sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane, died on March 15 when the truck that Rikhotso was allegedly driving made a U-turn in front of their car on the N1 between Mokopane and Polokwane. Rikhotso was unhurt during the accident.

Rikhotso was granted R5 000 bail by the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court in March. At the time, police were waiting for alcohol test results of the two bodyguards.

“Both of them were tested. I cannot say when the results will be released. They will be presented to the court case,” Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said.
