Domestic steals employer’s clothes, posts ‘new look’ on Facebook

A Sandton resident was shocked to see clothes that had allegedly been stolen from her, including her wedding dress, in her domestic worker’s Facebook photos.

According to Independent Online, the employer accidentally came across her former employee’s profile after it appeared on her Facebook friend suggestion. It became apparent to her the clothes were taken during employment.

The resident said: “I feel so violated. I cannot even look at my wedding dress anymore. Some of the buttons are now broken, as she tried to force the dress on. This is the dress in which I took sacred vows before God.”

She added the domestic had been employed to work three times a week. She apparently gave her employee various forms of support that included CPR training, school books and groceries for her children.

The woman  said her clothes would go missing but reappear the next day when she asked about them.

A charge of theft has since been laid against the worker who appeared in court on August 3. Reports claim the case was dismissed after the employer withdrew the charges and terminated the suspect’s employment.
