Former Springbok hooker critical after armed robbery

Reports suggest that Naka Drotske, a World Cup winner in 1995, lost a huge amount of blood whilst trying to fend off the attackers.

Former Springbok hooker Naka Drotske is in a critical condition at a Pretoria hospital following a robbery at a smallholding just outside the city.

According to News24, the 46-year-old – head coach of the Cheetahs between 2007 and 2015 – “lost almost a third of his blood” while trying to protect his family from four attackers.

Drotske was apparently shot three times.

An emergency operation has already been performed, but Drotske’s condition will first need to stabilise before a second operation on his arm can commence.

Unconfirmed reports also suggest that another Cheetahs and Springbok legend, Os du Randt, was with him on the premises.
