Gauteng Covid-19 active cases at 31 485 as total confirmed cases hit 206 892

Gauteng’s overall Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 206 892 with 175 407 recoveries and 3 334 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the Department of Health.

This saw the province to have about 31 485 active cases.

The Gauteng province recorded 365 new cases on Tuesday.

The Department of Health said out of 120 218 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 97 877 people have completed the 10 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 3 232.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

• Johannesburg: 83 075 cases and 74 811 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni: 46 510 cases and 43 959 recoveries
• Tshwane: 44 338 cases and 35 981 recoveries
• Sedibeng: 13 946 cases and 9 855 recoveries
• West Rand: 13 249 cases and 10 801 recoveries

• Mogale City: 6 900 cases;
• Rand West City: 3 464 cases;
• Merafong City: 2 793 cases;
• And 92 unallocated cases.

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
