Man hijacked, beaten and tied to tree
Cases of car hijacking and assault are being investigated after a man was allegedly hijacked, beaten and tied to a tree by three suspects along Dann Road in Glen Marais, Kempton Park, on the East Rand.
Kempton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said the man was approached the suspects who forced their way into his car at about 8.45pm on Saturday, Kempton Expressreported.
“According to the victim, the suspect then drove with him to a nearby veld, where they assaulted him. He was put back into the car and they drove off with him to the corner Monument and Quinine roads in Glen Marais. They assaulted him again and tied him to a tree before driving off in his car,” added Sekgobela.
Marius van Wyk for Smart Security said he arrived at the scene at about 9pm.
“The victim gave us his address and someone was sent to fetch his parents who live not far from where the incident took place,” added.
ER24 paramedics were called to the scene and treated the unidentified victim before he was rushed to Tembisa hospital where he is recovering.
In a separate incident, a 33-year-old man was hijacked and put in the boot of his burning car in Hibberdene, KwaZulu-Natal.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the man parked his car at a car wash in the Mfazazana area when two men approached him.
“The knife-wielding suspects forced him into the passenger seat. Three other men got inside the vehicle and drove off to a deserted place where they took off his clothing, bound his hands and feet and shoved him in the boot of the car,” added Wiid.
After placing him in the boot, the hijackers set the vehicle alight, but the man managed to escape from the burning car and contacted police, said Wiid. Investigations are ongoing.
