Man shoots wife in front of daughter

Investigations are under way after a man shot dead his wife before turning the gun on himself in Weltevreden Park, Roodepoort, in Gauteng.

It is believed their three-year-old daughter, who was with her parents at the time of the shooting, ran out of her home and went to call for help from the security guards at the main entrance on Tuesday night, Randburg Sun reported.

It was alleged residents in the area heard at least three gunshots.

VitalMed Emergency Services spokesperson Tania du Toit said they were called to the scene, and they found the couple in a pool of blood.

The child reportedly told security her father was hurting the mother.

Residents went to inspect the scene and found two bodies, a man and a woman, lying in a pool of blood, police said.

The deceased woman had two gunshot wounds to the head, while the deceased man had one.

Honeydew police are still to comment on the matter.

In a separate incident, a man shot dead his wife before turning the gun on himself in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, last month.

Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said the police received a complaint about a fight at a house at about 1pm.

Makhubela added when police arrived, the man shot his wife and turned the gun on himself. They both died at the scene.

The motive of the fight was unknown.
