Metro cop killers’ trial postponed again
The bail application of the four suspects accused of murdering Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer Martiens Bann was yesterday postponed to August 17.
Paul Manyathela, 23, Clement Mosweu, 26, Lebogang Mdebele, 24, and Bheki Nkosi, 25, appeared in Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to apply for bail. However, two of the accused’s lawyers were absent, Kempton Express reported.
In the previous bail application that took place last month, one of the accused had changed from a private to a state lawyer on the morning of the appearance. All four suspects are represented by different lawyers.
The suspects are alleged to be responsible for the death of Bann, who was killed on Saturday, July 11, just after 1pm, as he attempted to assist his neighbours during a house robbery.
Sebenza CPF executive chairperson, Andrew Mosesi, said outside the court that it was important for the community to stand together as one and fight horrible crimes happening right under their noses.
“The crime rate in Kempton park is unacceptable, and I believe that we as a community must stand together against these ruthless criminals,” said Mosesi.
The suspects have been charged with house robbery, murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and a stolen motor vehicle. They will remain in custody until August 17.
