Robbery in Mpumalanga sees farmworker tied up, livestock stolen

Police launched an investigation after a farm in Zaaihoek was raided after the thieves tied up a worker.

Police in eMalahleni are investigating a house robbery after a farm was targeted in the early hours of Saturday in Zaaihoek.

According to Witbank News, farm owner Vincent Mnguni said the thieves broke into the property at 01:00.

They tied up one of the farmworkers and raided the livestock.

“They obtained entry, tied my employee, and requested their cohorts to bring a car that allegedly fit nine goats. They requested a brown Fortuner, also that had a trailer that made off with seven cattle,” said Mnguni.

The thieves also made off with a significant amount of farming equipment. In addition to the livestock, Mnguni said the thieves took a generator, a wheat cutter, a warm lighter, a gas cylinder, a stove, and a roll of wire.

Speaking after the incident, Mnguni expressed disbelief, describing the robbery as the first of its kind since he began farming in the area.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this before. My employee managed to shout for help from the community, but the thieves managed to run away with the stolen stuff, leaving some of their belongings behind,” he said.

Witbank SAPS has launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made. Anyone with information that can assist is encouraged to contact Witbank SAPS at 013 659 8410.
