Teen fatally stabs robber

A 17-year-old boy has stabbed a suspected robber to death after he broke into his home in Waterloo Crescent in Pinelands, KwaZulu-Natal, yesterday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Bongumusa Manqele said it was believed an armed robber entered a house in Waterloo Crescent through the roof and confronted the boy, Highway Mailreported.

The suspected robber’s accomplice had been waiting outside the property.

“The boy allegedly heard the man breaking through the ceiling and went to the kitchen, where he picked up a kitchen knife. There was a confrontation. The boy stabbed the robber in self-defence. During the confrontation, the boy was also stabbed in the head and hand by the robber,” said Manqele.

The robber died at the scene, while the accomplice fled on foot. The boy was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

According to Scot Fordyce of the Pinelands Neighbourhood Watch, the boy received stitches in his head and had to undergo surgery today for a severed tendon in his arm.

Police are investigating cases of house robbery and attempted murder, and they have instigated an inquest.

This after a man was stabbed during a house robbery in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal, last week.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a gang of robbers had jumped on to the balcony and entered the house in Alistair Road at about 5.45am.

It is believed the robbers had held the victim at knife-point and stabbed him in the back before fleeing with his car keys and cellphones, added Jackson.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital by KZN Emergency Medical Services paramedics for further medical attention.

No arrests have been made.
